Association between Dental and Cardiovascular Diseases: A Systematic Review

Background: The link between dental, infective and obstructive cardiovascular diseases is debatable. Aim: To systematically review the literature to assess association dental conditions development of disease. Methods: systematic was conducted following PRISMA guidelines using PubMed (Medline), Web Science, Scopus, EMBASE SciELO. Results: Out 6680 records, 82 articles were eligible for inclusion after reviewing titles abstracts. No disease has been observed in 10 studies while a potential suggested by remaining trials. Tooth loss periodontitis are main evaluated oral coronary artery disease, stroke, atherosclerosis myocardial infarction represent major events. interaction these two clinical entities based on direct mechanism mediated systemic inflammatory response, leakage cytokines endothelial cells invasion pathogens indirect common risk factors or confounders. Conclusions: It seems that tooth loss, poor hygiene increase atherosclerotic events, subsequently health care professionals could contribute public control efforts.
